With the expertise of our staff of entomologists, we breed and rear our own stock of regional native butterflies for exhibits at zoos, botanical gardens, and conservatories across the nation. Whenever possible we offer tours of our Rearing Lab and USDA Inspected Containment Facility, which hosts exotic and native species of many types of insects.

We promote butterfly habitat cultivation, sustainable agricultural practices, and biological alternatives to chemical pest control. We specialize in providing native plants for pesticide-free pollinator habitats and pesticide-free control for garden pests to protect our pollinators. Attend a workshop and visit our gift shop for more resources.

We also raise and provide butterflies for local releases, special events, and educational purposes. Idlewild partners with educators in outreach programs throughout the year to raise and increase awareness about the importance of invertebrates to ecosystems.
