Idlewild is a USDA-inspected and certified Insectarium, meaning we can legally and safely house and display exotic insect species from around the world. These insects are then distributed to zoos, museums, universities, and other insectariums, or kept for live display and education at Idlewild.

    We raise butterflies for educational exhibits across the U.S. We also provide butterflies for local release in Kentucky for weddings, memorials and special events and education.

    Tour our Butterfly Rearing Laboratory and Insectarium for an up close look at our operations and our insects. Our USDA Inspected Containment Facility hosts exotic and native species of many types of insects!

  • Protecting Our Pollinators

    We specialize in providing native plants for pesticide-free pollinator habitat and pesticide-free control for garden pests to protect our pollinators. Attend a workshop and visit our gift shop for more resources.
